Axe(s) of research

The team activities are focused on transposable elements (TE) and to the dissection of their relationship with the host genomes, using insect models and exploiting the variability of these relations in natural populations. Currently this theme is examined from two perspectives in the team: 1. Retrovirus Epidemiology: we seek to understand the factors responsible for variability in the number of copies and activity of endogenous retrovirus in natural populations of Drosophila. Our data suggest a variability of epigenetic control mechanisms of these retroviruses between populations, which imply small RNA pathways. 2. Genetic basis of adaptation of the tiger mosquito in temperate environments: we seek to understand to what extent TE are implicated for changes in gene expression allowing Aedes albopictus to a successful invasive species.

Key words: transposable elements, natural populations, endogenous retrovirus, epigenetics, population genetics
