Work Package 1: Biological Networks
Human Interactome
The work-package 1 concerns biological networks from the molecular-cellular level to populations and host communities.
The acceleration of data acquisition highlights many interactions which become too complex to be summarized one by one. All these interactions are then called network. There are networks of the immune response actors, social networks conditioning transmission of pathogens in the host population, etc. Methodological developments in algorithmy allow to synthetize these networks in order to extract a limited set of organizational rules.
From the point of view of infectiology, the objective will be to model theoretical networks in order to identify variations that can affect their function.
For one and the same disease, several networks exist at different levels of organization, from the cell to the ecosystem. In the long term, the objective, is to understand the imbrication of these different networks.
Two major research topics:
- To introduce interactions between species at the molecular and cellular levels: identification of networks of key molecular elements involved in a viral or bacterial infection
- To identify key individuals and key populations involved in a viral or bacterial infection
